Design Challenge*:

“Design an interactive thermostat display/device that reflects how people think about thermostats without changing the basic operation of the thermostat or the home’s heating or cooling system. Most important is that the device encourages good environmentally sound practice. If you cool or heat your space beyond the comfort level, large amounts of energy are wasted. How will your device encourage good habits (or discourage bad habits and operator misunderstanding)?

Results:

-Human-centered interactive design

-Conducted an usability test on initial design and revised design according to test results

-Reflected needs of the consumer, not personal preferences
